Supercharger Systems

Each Vortech supercharging system is designed and developed to operate as a seamless addition to the base vehicle. By employing the same methods as the original manufacturers, Vortech engineers create fully integrated supercharger systems that not only appear as if they were original equipment; they operate at an even higher level of sophistication. The boost curve generated by Vortech’s superchargers is ideally matched with today’s highly evolved engines, and gives you a power when you need it sensation. The supercharger and the technologically advanced subsystems fully integrate into the vehicle’s existing platform yielding a smooth continuity of power and performance.

We provide the best performance while maintaining a margin of safety that anticipates most driving conditions that the customer may encounter. Most of our complete supercharger systems are created with the intention of passing the stringent emissions regulations. These systems now yield huge power numbers even with our conservative approach; this is mostly due to Vortech’s compressor efficiency and advanced charge cooler systems.

Nearly all of our Complete systems can be purchased as what we call tuner kits. These kits delete the fuel system and ECM programming, allowing you several supercharger and performance options so that you may custom tune your vehicle to a higher level for sport or racing use.

Standard Supercharger Systems

These systems are complete including all components required for a bolt-on installation by the experienced do-it-yourselfer. Most complete systems are 50-state emissions legal or are pending.

High-Output Systems (Charge Cooled)

High-Output systems are similar to the standard systems with a higher level of performance. The supercharger is set at a higher boost level and a charge cooler is usually included with higher rated subsystems to accommodate the higher boost. Appropriate fuel pump and injectors, bypass valves and other upgrades along with ECM re-programming are part of these highly popular systems on most models.

Third Party Systems

Vortech does not make a system for every vehicle on the road. We have selected companies such as Shelby Autos and VF-Engineering to produce systems using a Vortech supercharger for various applications. Call the Vortech tech line for more information.

Tuner Kits

These configurations are designed for those qualified tuners or race shops who do not require the fuel managements items included in our standard systems. Among the items excluded are fuel pump, fuel injectors, FMU, air-inlet assembly (T-Trim models) and ECM programmer or timing controller.

Base Kits

Designed for those who already have a Vortech Supercharger, but need the miscellaneous components (brackets, connectors, ducts, hoses, fasteners, etc.) to complete an installation. Fuel management components/electronics are available separately.

Vortech Standard and High-Output (Charge Cooled) Systems are 100% complete, allowing an effortless installation.

The following components are among those included

  • Gear driven, centrifugal supercharger with SQ technology provides quiet operation and unmatched reliability
  • Technologically advanced, high-efficiency compressor stage design developed in Vortech’s supercharger test cell
  • Supercharger drive system includes all necessary belts, pulleys, idler and tensioner
  • High-flow bypass valve provides surge-free compressor operation
  • Fuel management/calibration components used are high-capacity fuel injectors, high-flow fuel pump, fuel management unit (FMU), high-flow MAF, ECM chip or module, ECM re-programmer and timing controller (The above items vary per application, see system pages for details)
  • Oil feed and oil drain assemblies deliver the best possible lubrication and cooling for the supercharger, preferred for sustained boost conditions
  • High-flow air intake configuration with reusable air filter and specially designed inlet ducts for superior fit
  • Inlet and discharge duct connections utilize heat resistant silicon sleeves and premium quality stainless steel clamps
  • OEM-type cast aluminum or billet aluminum mounting bracketry for rigidity and a factory installed appearance
  • Compatible with factory OBD II engine management systems

Uncomplicated Installations

Systems are designed for easy installation by most car/truck/SUV enthusiasts or automotive technicians. We include every component necessary to modify the appropriate factory components from fuel and ignition management to air intake. Additionally, Vortech maintains a tech line with trained personnel ready to assist and advise those who want to push the limits or need help for competition efforts.

Maintenance

Vortech supercharging systems with V-3 compressors feature a self-contained lubrication system. Installation is easier because there are no hoses to connect. Systems with V-2 compressors have an integrated lubrication system. The engine oil supply is shared with the supercharger. This ensures maximum durability with virtually no maintenance. In fact, when you change your engine oil, you change the supercharger oil.

50-State Emission Legal

Most Vortech complete supercharger systems are emissions legal in all 50 states or have the California Air Resources Board (C.A.R.B.) approval pending on process completion. Please refer to the individual system pages for specific EO number by application.

Durability/Drivability

The centrifugal supercharger system characteristics of progressive boost allows for peak power targets to be achieved without overwhelming drivetrain components such as transmissions, driveshaft, clutches and rear axle assemblies. This performance curve, directly proportional to engine rpm, allows a centrifugal system to exceed the peak power potential of other boosting options with excellent drivability, performance and less impact on fuel economy. And, coupled with our conservative approach to tuning, we have seen many of our owners exceed 100,000 miles of trouble free motoring. We know of one customer that exceeded 350,000 miles with no repairs.

Modified Vehicles

Vortech complete supercharging systems are developed using a stock vehicle. Only minor modifications such as a cat-back exhaust system will be compatible with our bolt on systems. Custom programming (not included) will be necessary on modified vehicles. Also, regarding aftermarket tires and wheels, changing the overall diameter of the drive wheels more then an inch may require custom programming.

High-Altitude Operation

As a result of the change in atmospheric pressure with an increase in altitude, a drop in boost pressure is common when operating in such cities as Denver, Colorado. A good rule of thumb is that you’ll experience a 1 1/2 to 2 PSIG drop in pressure at a 5000 ft. elevation.
